Any aspiring (or established) artists out there? The CoB,O has been trying to get a high quality (300 dpi) 8x8 inch copy of its logo for a shirt. We're having some trouble doing this (family matters with the current artist, completely understanble!)-if you want to send your for submission, keep a high quality copy on reserve, and email a compressed jpg to graphics@cobo.org. All proceeds from this will go to charity, most likely Reef Relief.

Thomas Ponton has posted his next column on the bulletin board, Blame it on the Internet.

The Parrothead Web Ring's latest newsletter is available. Also they have a new store that you can buy their gear from.

Jan 25

From The Vault has been updated with "If I Had a Boat," a great cover of Lyle Lovett's tune. This knocks the socks off the CoB,O-way to go JB!

Cindy Kekevian posted this to the JB listserv:

OK, I'll probably screw up a bunch of details, but a friend told me that he heard this on ESPN radio yesterday. Randy White, defensive tackle for the Cowboys & co-MVP of SuperBowl XII (1978??) was talking about his experience with hype week. He said the only thing that he remembers is going into some little bar & singing "Redneck Mother" with Willie Nelson, Jerry Jeff Walker and our very own Jimmy Buffett.

Former CRB dancer Heather has left the ultimate in trash tv, "Temptation Island," "for reasons of her own."

Jan 24

Why not do a good deed:

Our friends Debbie and Rick Pridemore from the Lexington Parrot Head club lost their house and all of its contents to a fire early yesterday morning. Debbie is the president of the Bluegrass Parrot Head club.

At the February 1st phlocking of the Derby Parrot Heads (Louisville, KY) we'll be collecting clothing and toiletries for them. We'll also be raffling off something to help them out. If you or anyone in your club would like to make a donation to help get them back on their feet, please contact us at donations@derbyparrotheads.com.

Jan 23

Alex Leist passed along some of the scary things some people will do for JB tickets.

Raleigh Warner asked for some help on getting Parrothead themed license plates:

My name's Raleigh and I'm a member of Parrotheads of the Old Dominion in Northern Virginia.

I contacted my local state delegate and had him propose a bill to allow parrot head club license plates. Virginia currently allows special interest groups to design a specific license plate for that group. These are very common in Virginia and most civic clubs have custom plates. I thought since Virginia has eight sanctioned clubs that we could easily get the required 350 applicants.

After the bill was introduced we contacted the PHIP about using their logo as the symbol on the plates. They informed me early this week that PHIP has limited trademark permission for the term "Parrot Head". They cannot grant us permission for use on the plate and that I should contact Buffett's management.

The trademark issued never even occurred to me when this got started. I've contacted Margaritaville and they have forwarded my request to Buffett's management. It has also been suggested by the PHIP board that we try to contact Mike Ramos.

At this point we are concerned that the lawyers would simply work to kill the bill without looking for some suitable alternatives. Or that we won't get any response in time, forcing us to request the bill be pulled.

This is a good thing and would promote our clubs as community service organizations. It could be used as a national model.

We do, however, want to move the project forward quickly in a fashion that would make the other clubs, and maybe Jimmy, proud.

This sounds like a worthwhile project and I hope that HK Management/Margaritaville/JB himself approves this. It's not always to get through the layers to get to JB-but if you can get his attention on matters he is more than reasonable. If folks can help get the word about Raleigh's project to JB I think that'd help a lot...

Derek Rollins just sent in this alert re: Dallas tix:

The Dallas Stars and Reunion Arena are offering advance tickets to the Buffett show RIGHT NOW! Tickets are flying out the door, and I'm not sure that any are left. But, here's the deal, if you register as a Dallas Stars e-deal member, you are a part of the system. Then, if you call 214-GO-STARS, and give them your name, you're in.

Tickets are priced at a robust $95.00, but they're lower level "VIP" seats. Since there has been little info on the Dallas onsale, this marks a perfect opportunity to avoid the headache that surely looms in the future.

Tom Gill sent in these Ticketmaster strategies.

Jimmy has been nominated to win Best Live Act (Amphitheatres) in musictoday.com's Golden Roadie Awards 2000. Right now JB is getting slaughtered. Pretend you're from Chicago and vote early and often!

We're looking for some volunteers to help monitor the Ticket Swap for ticket agencies, scalpers, and dumb posts (like when do tickets go on sale). All you'd have to do is just glance over emails/ads every couple days and if there is an offender, you go to the web site and delete (oh the power!). If we have 1 or 2 people monitor each date it would only be a couple minutes a day or so, and it'd free us up to attend to more pressing matters. If interested please email us at noscalping@cobo.org.

Unfortunately for you northeasters, I've heard that the dates that Boston's Fleet Center were holding for JB aren't going to happen...

Reliable sources from PHIP state that tickets for Florida shows have increased but not as much as was earlier reported on the COB,O. Buffett was mentioned & quoted in the Jan./Feb. issue of Islands magazine in ""The Music Man" an article about Tom Moffatt in Hawaii on p. 42:

(About Moffatt's office) "The main entry is a sliding glass door, but it's so hard to open that most visitors - from the pizza delivery guy to Jimmy Buffett - rarely use it, entering instead by way of another glass door by another door that leads past Moffatt's desk."

(About Moffatt's photo collection) "and color snapshots - of Moffatt with Buffett in Tahiti,"

JB was winning Maxim's Fashion and Travel poll at last look with 60% of the vote. The poll was "Auld Lang Syne is so played, and no one knows the friggin' words. The New Year's Eve anthem should be... Prince, "1999" (for nostalgic reasons); R.E.M., "It's the End of the World As We Know It (And I feel Fine)"; Europe, "The Final Countdown"; Jimmy Buffet [note the 1 t], "Why Don't We Get Drunk and Screw." Thanks to Brad Hoyer

The Landsharks are a new professional lacrosse team in Columbus, Ohio and take their name from "...the sharks who can swim on the land..." in the song "Fins."
